Big Air

Big Air® is a “long jump for dogs”. The dog, may be placed anywhere on the 40’ dock, runs & jumps into the water after a throw toy. The distance is judged from the end of the dock to where the tail set of the dog breaks the water’s surface. A chase object may be used to entice the dog into the water but is not required. Chase objects must be throwable, floatable, non-edible  and retrievable.  Each team gets 60 seconds on the dock from the time the dog sets foot on the dock until the dog is in motion.  One dog, one handler, one toy only allowed on the dock during competition. Dog vests and life jacket/floatation devices are permitted.

Speed Retrieve

Speed Retrieve® is a “timed event”. At the far end of the pool a bumper toy is suspended 2” above the water with a starting indicator light above it. The dog is then placed at the 20’ white starting mark on the dock, when the light turns green the handler releases the dog, the timer stops when the  bumper is snatched cleanly from the Speed Retrieve bracket. The dog does not need to bring the bumper back to the handler for a score.

Sonic – 5.999 seconds and under                            
Nitro – 6 to  6.999 seconds 
Turbo – 7.000 to 7.999
Express- 8.000 seconds and over

 

Extreme Vertical

Extreme Vertical® is a “high jump” for dogs. The dog starts off anywhere in front of the 20’ mark on the dock . The toy is extended 8′ out and the starting height for Extreme Vertical® is 4’6” & goes up in 2” increments as competition progresses. The height is measured from the dock to the toy.

Iron Dog is similar to a triathlon. Dogs that are registered as an Iron Dog, will have their best score in each of the three disciplines from the event (Big Air®, Speed Retrieve®, Extreme Vertical®) calculated from a points table.
